Superintendent Andy Brickley presented his proposed 2025–26 performance-goal framework and asked the board to review the document ahead of the upcoming board retreat. Brickley described five broad goal areas: completion of a new district strategic plan, enhanced communication and engagement strategies, a focus on teaching and learning (curriculum, instruction, assessment and technology), staff recruitment and retention efforts (including voluntary-separation considerations), and advancing bond projects and related safety and facility work.
Brickley reviewed the evaluation timeline required by state law—initial-year superintendents are evaluated at least twice in year one, then annually thereafter—and said this is his 13th year in the district. He described data sources used to set indicators under each goal: the district strategic plan, superintendent evaluations, an annual anonymous administrative-team survey, and staff/parent survey data (which the district is updating). Brickley said indicators, more than goal headings, normally change year to year and that the document is meant to start a board conversation rather than to be final tonight.
Board members offered feedback: one member asked for a future briefing on the district’s HAL (high-ability learning) program review as a board-level overview item; another asked for data showing whether recent recruitment and retention changes are effective and suggested including succession planning and consideration of the superintendent’s time commitments to external boards. Brickley and trustees agreed to continue discussion at the board retreat and to use the goals document as a living framework with midyear and year-end updates.
