Chattanooga council approves multiple zoning changes, contract awards and funding transfers; denies industrial rezoning on Hixson Pike

The council approved right-of-way abandonments, multiple rezoning requests, wastewater and park construction contracts and a resolution to move remaining Chattanooga Opportunity Fund dollars to the Industrial Development Board for small-business programs, while denying a rezoning sought for outdoor storage at 4525 (Hixson Pike).
Planning and zoning decisions
The council took a series of zoning actions. It approved a pair of ordinances abandoning unopened rights-of-way in the 200 block of Tremont Street and the unit block of Chambliss Street as a package. Notable rezoning votes included:
- Denial: Planning case 20250099, a request to rezone property referenced as 4525 (Hixson Pike) from CC (Commercial Corridor) to IL (Light Industrial) for outdoor storage was denied after staff and the planning commission recommended denial. Opposition from a medical-office operator and a nearby developer cited safety concerns and land-use incompatibility. Councilman Clark moved to deny; the motion passed on voice vote.
- Approval: Planning case 20250109, rezoning in the 1000 block of Lupton Drive from RN-3 to CC (Commercial Corridors) passed; the district representative moved to approve.
- Denial: Planning case 20250054 (7458 and 7460 Pinewood Drive) was denied when the applicant failed to appear; the district representative moved to deny.
