Community development committee highlights summer-camp turnout, debates hiring process for department head

The Chattanooga City Council's community development committee on Aug. 25 heard a presentation on the 2025 summer-camp season and discussed an internal reorganization of the Department of Community Development as officials prepare to move from an interim to a permanent administrator.
Interim administrator Cedric Kinson told the committee the summer-camp program ran June 2 through July 25 and registered 625 participants across youth, teen and senior programs. "This year's program... we had an outstanding 625 participants registered," Kinson said, listing 12 youth camps for ages 6 to 12, two teen camps with 35 participants for ages 13 to 16, and four senior-adult sites at North River, Hixson, Francis B. Wyatt and Glenwood.
