Nicollet County approves purchase agreement for 501 S. Front St. in Saint Peter

Nicollet County commissioners on Aug. 12 authorized the county to enter a purchase agreement to acquire property at 501 South Front Street in Saint Peter for $190,000 and approved payment of $38,000 in earnest money.
County staff told the board a tentative agreement was reached after a closed-session discussion of the offer during the July 8 meeting. Staff said the county has purchased six properties along Front and Myrtle streets over the last 12 years to provide off-street parking and green space for visitors and county staff.
The staff presentation asked the board to authorize the board chair to sign the purchase agreement and related closing documents. The presentation also said the property closing will occur in 2026.
A motion to approve the purchase agreement, the earnest-money payment and authorization for the chair to sign carried by voice vote; no public comment was recorded on the purchase.
The county did not provide a contract or resolution number during the meeting. Final closing and recorded instruments will be completed in 2026 as part of the county’s ongoing campus planning effort.
