County to renew Real Vision software; departments to share modest $250 increase

County staff told commissioners at the Aug. 4 work session that the county will renew an annual license with Real Vision Software Incorporated, a vendor that provides a viewer for documents housed on the county's IBM iSeries (AS/400) system.
Ernie (staff) said the renewal represents a $250 increase over last year — the vendor's first price increase in five years — and that four county departments that rely on the application will share the cost. He said the county is migrating from an in-house system to a hosted system but will continue to use the desktop viewer during the transition.
When a commissioner asked whether Real Vision is the same product used to access assessment information, Ernie replied, “No. It is not. This is, this is, an IBM iSeries oriented company. It is not the assessment folks, which is Vision Inc. This is Real Vision.” A commissioner noted the increase equals “only a 10% increase, basically.”
Staff said the renewal will be on the Thursday agenda for formal approval; no vote occurred during the Aug. 4 work session.
