Ordinance C34-25, which would appropriate $75,000 from the general fund for a Southwestern City Schools adult hub training program, had its first reading. The ordinance was not voted on; a second reading and public hearing were scheduled for the Sept. 2 council meeting.
Resolution CR34-25 authorized the city administrator to seek financial assistance from the State Capital Improvement Program and the Local Transportation Improvement Program for improvements at Stringtown Road and Marlane Drive. Service/engineering staff described the principal scope: construct a median on Stringtown Road from approximately Marlane Drive west to Gantz Road to prohibit left-hand turns at a known crash location. City staff noted the project is contingent on final engineering and funding availability.
City staff explained the application timeline: the city will apply at the end of the month, expects to learn award results in December, and — if successful — funds would become available July 2026. Design would begin in July 2026 with construction required to be underway in 2027 per the funding program's schedule. Staff also announced a public meeting on the project on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in council chambers.
During discussion, a staff member said the segment near Marlane is a high-accident location — "the number 1 accident site in the city" — underscoring the safety rationale for limiting left turns there. Council approved the resolution on a recorded roll-call vote.
No contract awards or construction work will begin until the project completes engineering and funding steps; council granted authorization to pursue state funding only.
