The Oktibbeha County Board of Supervisors approved awarding a federally funded contract for six outdoor notification sirens after a presentation and public comment from volunteers and fire department representatives.
A resident and volunteer fire personnel urged the board to locate one planned siren at Bethel Station rather than the originally proposed site, saying topography at the originally planned station sits below much of the service area and would reduce coverage. A county official said the grant is federal and that the county can request a change order to move the site; final siting will involve the grant administrator, the county attorney, the county administrator, the fire coordinator and the EMA director.
County staff said the grant covers six sirens and that Precision Communications was the recommended contractor. The board approved awarding the contract to Precision Communications in the amount of $246,670; staff noted minor bid paperwork deficiencies that staff waived because there were no other bidders.
County staff said they will coordinate with the grant administrator and the bidder to implement any approved relocation or change order and will ensure required certifications of components for the federal grant are completed.
The board approved the award unanimously.
