City-County IT updates: forensic center open house, Pinecrest handover, Workday MFA change and phone migration

City-County IT staff updated the Infrastructure Committee on an upcoming ribbon cutting for the Regional Forensic Science Center, the sale and network handover of Pinecrest Nursing Home to Ensign Group, a Workday multi-factor authentication change impacting adjunct users by Sept. 20, and a planned migration of county phones to Cisco Webex cloud.
City-County IT (CCIT) staff told the Marathon County Infrastructure Committee on Aug. 7 about several ongoing technology projects affecting county operations and partner organizations.
Mister Klein said the Regional Forensic Science Center is finishing punch-list work and will hold open houses, with a ribbon cutting anticipated on Aug. 13. CCIT staff are resolving final camera and electronics items at the center.
Klein reported the Pinecrest Nursing Home (Merrill) closed late Friday to new owner Ensign Group, which replaced much of the facility’s equipment. "The turnover to Ensign went pretty smoothly on Friday night," Klein said. CCIT will remove and recover county-owned equipment and continue to support a smaller North Central Health Care outpatient footprint that remains in the building under a lease. Klein said county staff experienced about an hour of outage during the handover while nurse-call and networking teams resolved integration issues.
CCIT is also preparing a security change in Workday: the vendor Workday is eliminating a legacy “challenge questions” mechanism and CCIT will migrate adjunct groups (for example, ADRC staff, airport staff and other non-core county payroll users who must access Workday) to Microsoft Authenticator-based multi-factor authentication. Klein said the conversion affects several hundred users and that the next big conversion date is Sept. 20.
On device management, CCIT staff said they continue migrating mobile-device management to Microsoft Intune and that the project has been more complex than anticipated. Klein said CCIT will solicit an RFP for the jail intercom project because the current system consists of multiple integrated components many of which are end-of-life. "It's about 4 different systems that have to talk to each other ... many of them are at end of life or beyond end of life," Klein said of the jail intercoms. CCIT expects to issue an RFP for a replacement intercom system.
Klein added CCIT will sign a contract this week to replace the county phone system and migrate to Cisco Webex cloud calling.
Committee members did not take formal action; staff said they will continue implementation and will bring procurement items back to the committee as required.
