Infrastructure committee unanimously recommends cleanup to county speed-limit ordinance

The Marathon County Infrastructure Committee on Aug. 7 voted unanimously to recommend that the County Board adopt an updated ordinance that cleans up outdated and duplicate speed-limit listings in Marathon County Code, section 7.03.
Committee members said the item is administrative cleanup rather than a substantive change to speed limits. Administrator Leonard told the committee the rewrite removes roads no longer under county jurisdiction and eliminates duplicate listings — for example, locations that showed both 45-mph and 35-mph listings on the books. “So it's basically a cleanup that taking off the old roads that are no longer under our jurisdiction and eliminating some of those duplicates,” staff said during the meeting.
Chair Robinson called for a motion to recommend approval. Supervisor Jensen moved to approve the ordinance and Supervisor Swibert seconded. After no further discussion, the committee signaled unanimous approval to forward the ordinance to the County Board.
The updated ordinance package also contains mapping exhibits; Supervisor Jensen asked staff to standardize the legend coloring between the current and proposed maps to make changes easier to spot. Staff acknowledged the maps had differing legend colors caused by an automatic export and said they would standardize them if helpful.
Votes at a glance: the committee recommended approval to the County Board by unanimous voice vote. The committee did not record individual roll-call votes in the transcript.
