San Clemente votes to rejoin Association of California Cities, Orange County division

The San Clemente City Council voted on Aug. 5 to rejoin the Association of California Cities — Orange County (ACCOC), authorizing staff to submit an application for membership and appointing the mayor as the council’s representative.
Chris Murray, ACCOC executive director, briefed the council on ACCOC programs including advocacy, workshops, municipal training, a task force on sober-living facility reforms and a partnership program for energy-efficiency audits. Murray said 26 Orange County cities and more than 55 affiliate members currently participate and that ACCOC provides no-cost programming for city officials and staff.
The council discussed the timing of the membership request during the fiscal year; city staff confirmed the action requires a mid-cycle appropriation. Councilmembers said they value ACCOC’s regional advocacy capacity and training programs and voted unanimously to authorize application and to appoint the mayor or another council member as the city’s voting representative, with the mayor designated for the immediate appointment.
Staff noted the city had left ACCOC during the COVID pandemic for budgetary reasons and that rejoining restores access to ACCOC advocacy trips, webinars and regional policy committees. The council instructed staff to complete the application and return any paperwork needed for formal enrollment.
