Oakland Park plans staged move to new Sky Building; Collins library to be renovated, temporary relocation planned

Library plan and timing: Collins Building renovation will continue; the library will temporarily relocate to the Jocko Building while Collins is finished (expected early 2026). Staff said that Collins will be modernized but that the city is still assessing whether an expanded Collins or an alternate permanent site is optimal for long-term library services; decisions will follow further review of costs and usage.

Staff noted the county’s large air- and seaport projects and the city’s need to preserve parking capacity, which influenced the decision to prioritize public parking access at the Sky Building.

Commission remarks: Commissioners asked for specifics about the library’s services while at the Jocko Building and about parking impacts for downtown businesses; staff said the temporary site would be smaller and not house all current meeting-room amenities, and committed to working with businesses (for example, Funky Buddha) on parking contingencies during the transition.
