Council sets Aug. 25 hearing for assessments on completed sidewalk, curb and gutter work

Missoula City Council on Aug. 4 set a public hearing date of Aug. 25 to consider levying assessments for completed sidewalk, curb and gutter improvements in several areas, including Wharton Turner right-of-way and Ivy and Franklin Phase 1 right-of-way work, plus miscellaneous parcels.
Lee Griffin presented the item and told council the work in question has already been ordered and completed; staff seek authorization to publish the notice of hearing and mail assessment notices to affected property owners. Griffin said the city published notice in the Missoulian and will mail assessment notices to parcels on the assessment list; on Aug. 25 staff will bring forward both an assessment resolution for public hearing and a financing resolution for council consideration.
Councilor Bob Campbell and Councilor Kristen Jordan requested clearer visual materials: Campbell asked whether maps or zone boundaries could be provided so council and the public can see the footprint of the assessments rather than only a parcel list and amounts. Griffin said staff will consult Public Works and attempt to prepare maps for the committee presentation and the hearing.
Vice President Mirta Becerra read the motion to set the public hearing for Aug. 25 and asked staff to prepare the assessment list and notices. The council did not record a roll-call vote on the motion in the transcript; staff confirmed the hearing will be set and notices published so the assessment hearing can proceed on Aug. 25.
