On Aug. 4 the Vermillion City Council held a public hearing and voted to advance Ordinance 15-37, the rezoning request for Lot 8A, Block 7 of Erickson Addition, from the General Business (GB) district to the General Industrial (GI) district. City planning staff presented the request on behalf of the Vermillion Chamber and Development Company (VCDC).
Jose explained the parcel is south of Bauer Street, west of Princeton and north of West Duke โ behind Hy-Vee, the Vermillion Technology Center and Goodwill. The Planning and Zoning Commission considered the matter on July 28 and unanimously (7โ0) recommended approval. Jose noted existing VCDC covenants will continue to limit some uses even if zoning changes.
No members of the public spoke in opposition; two members spoke in support before the commission, according to staff. Councilor Lieber moved to advance the ordinance; Councilor Price seconded and the motion carried unanimously. The second reading and final consideration are scheduled for Aug. 18.
