Council approves sole-source purchase of IVUS technology for investigative use

The Goldsboro City Council approved a resolution Monday authorizing a sole-source purchase of IVUS technology for the Goldsboro Police Department after the city manager described the vendor and technology as uniquely available from a single supplier.
City Manager Matt Livingston said the purchase required a policy waiver because the technology could not be competitively procured. "This is a sole source type of situation where we can't purchase anything because of this type of technology and what goes on with it only through this company," he said.
Following a motion and second, the council voted to approve the resolution permitting the purchase. The motion passed on a unanimous voice/roll-call vote.
Council members asked no substantive follow-up questions during the item. The council's approval allows the police department to complete procurement under the sole-source authority and proceed with deploying the investigative capability.
The resolution was approved 7-0; staff will proceed with the purchase and any required contracting steps.
