Loudon — The Loudon City Council on July 28 recognized firefighter Christian Gonzales with an award of valor for an off‑duty rescue June 30, 2025, at Jellystone Campground, Director of Public Safety Michael Brubaker told the council.
Brubaker described Gonzales leaving a family camping site immediately after hearing that a young child at the campground was experiencing a medical emergency in a pool. Brubaker told the council that Gonzales “left his family immediately and went to assist in reviving the young girl,” and presented Gonzales with an award that the department described as being given “in recognition of selflessness and sacrifice.”
The city presented the award during the council’s recognition portion of the July meeting. Brubaker said the incident reflected the Loudon Fire Department’s core values of service, bravery, honor and dedication. Mayor Mary Chet Harris and other council members joined in thanking Gonzales for his actions.
Gonzales was hired full time in December 2020 after participating in an on‑the‑job training program while in high school, Brubaker said.
The council’s recognition statement says the department received positive feedback from a citizen about the care given to a patient when Gonzales was on duty; the award noted Gonzales also took immediate action while off duty at the June 30 incident.
