Parks and Recreation reopens renovated sauna, adjusts pool hours and expands youth programs

Tyler Florence, director of Parks and Recreation, briefed the Board of County Commissioners on July 28 about recent facility upgrades, program changes and a capital improvement suggestion.
Florence said the aquatics facility sauna reopened following renovations intended to improve comfort, efficiency and accessibility. He told the board that pool hours were adjusted starting that day to Monday–Friday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday–Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and said the full schedule and amenities are posted on the department website.
Florence reported high attendance at the climbing gym and that Camp Jackson and five standard camp groups are at full capacity; a new pre‑K after‑school program will enroll about 10 children with registration opening in mid‑August and a K–5 after‑school program will serve about 65 children via a lottery registration. The department's climbing and art after‑school clubs were also noted.
On parks work, Florence said staff completed the Wilson ramp improvements with positive feedback, and that BLM parcel 23 on Fall Creek Road is attracting substantial family use and might be a candidate for a vault toilet or other waste‑management improvements in a future capital plan.
Commissioners praised the Wilson ramp work and asked staff to identify the contractor and operator to pass along thanks. Florence said staff would follow up on contractor identification.
