Dickson County board approves Imagine Learning platform for district virtual academy, subject to contract review

The superintendent’s staff said the new platform uses Tennessee-certified teachers and lets local teachers provide synchronous face-to-face instruction more frequently than the previous provider.
The district said the vendor quoted $48,006.50 for an initial block of courses and that the district budget includes about $175,000 for virtual learning this year. Staff said the $48,006.50 was a conservative estimate; Imagine Learning bills on actual usage and the district budgeted up to about $175,000 to cover anticipated enrollment. The board motion approved the platform selection “subject to the approval of the contract by our attorney, Mr. Hall,” and a board member seconded the motion. The attorney’s review was requested before final signature.
Board members asked administrative staff where the expense sits in the budget and whether the contract had been reviewed. Staff replied the expense is in the DCDLA virtual-learning line and that the district will be billed on usage; the purchase order/contract review must still be completed. A family orientation for Imagine Learning will be scheduled once the contract and implementation timeline are ready.
No amendment to the vendor selection was made; the motion passed on a voice vote recorded in the minutes as “All ayes.”
Officials emphasized that local teachers will deliver synchronous instruction through the platform, that the vendor employs Tennessee-certified teachers for supplemental offerings, and that special-education accommodations will be coordinated through the district’s IEP process. Staff also noted the district would initially buy a conservative number of course seats and expand based on actual enrollment.
Next steps include attorney review of the vendor contract and administrative follow-up to finalize implementation and family orientation dates.
