Regional transportation plan outreach presented to BAC; members and public note Bike Houston events and remember longtime cycling advocate Bob Stein

A regional transportation planning official briefed the Bicycle Advisory Committee on the Houston-Galveston Area Council’s (HGAC) 2050 regional transportation plan and asked the committee to help publicize upcoming outreach meetings.

Brandon Mosley, a principal planner at HGAC, told the committee the RTP update sets vision and priorities for federally funded transportation investments through 2050 and that HGAC is conducting an initial outreach phase through mid‑August. Mosley outlined a schedule of public meetings in multiple counties, a survey and partner toolkit for local groups to help recruit participants.

Mosley asked the committee to encourage community members to complete the survey and attend outreach events so the cycling community’s needs are captured in the regional plan. “We need everyone’s voice,” he said while describing online and in‑person options and a regional meeting schedule.

During public comment a speaker urged the committee to engage on the scooter ban discussion and suggested policy tools to address late‑night reckless use without an outright ban. Committee announcements included Bike Houston’s fall events — a Houston Bike Fest at Saint Arnold Brewery on Oct. 25 and Biketoberfest on Oct. 3 — and a proposal to organize a memorial ride to honor Robert “Bob” Stein, a long‑time Rice University cycling advocate, who was remembered in recent services.

HGAC’s planner offered to attend local community meetings when schedules permit and provided a website and survey for public input. Committee members asked staff to include HGAC materials with post‑meeting slides.
