Superintendent reports on summer facilities work: new press box, LED retrofits, elevator and track resurfacing

Superintendent Manuel reported to the Germantown Municipal School District Board on multiple summer facilities and technology projects completed or underway across the district.
At Houston High School the district completed a new press box and replaced the track surface, adding an eighth lane and improving accessibility in bleachers; the stadium/track project was described as a $3,000,000 project. The district also completed ceiling tile and grid replacement in upper-level public areas, with an estimated Phase 2 cost of $1,500,000 to finish lower levels. LED lighting retrofits installed as part of the ceiling work were projected to reduce utility costs by 18% to 22% on average.
Superintendent Manuel said the district replaced an elevator installed in 1989; the elevator project cost was reported as $255,000 and includes a new jack and cab system. The high school cabling was updated to support the district's 1-to-1 device environment and improve network speed and reliability; cabling for lower levels will be completed in Phase 2.
Other work included a new intercom system with broader coverage, a print media area funded by an ISM grant named "Stang Studios" (part of the CTE program), and updates to Riverdale Elementary to create six small-group teaching spaces and four offices at a reported cost of $194,000. Updates to Raider Television Studio were made using PEG funds to support green-screen production capability.
Superintendent Manuel provided preliminary enrollment numbers for the 2025-26 school year (noted as early figures): Dogwood (589), Farmington (595), Forest Hill (634), Riverdale (1,112), Houston Middle School (966), Houston High School (1,817) and GOL Academy (59). He said final residency breakdowns will be provided in the district's October report.
Board members and staff noted the projects were funded through a mix of district funds and grants; the superintendent said some projects were completed using county commission dollars or grant funding where available. The superintendent closed by inviting board members to tour the new press box and other updated facilities.
