Commissioners approve minutes, claims and payroll; adopt 2026 holiday schedule

Tippecanoe County commissioners on Aug. 18 approved routine administrative business including minutes, claims, payroll and the county's 2026 holiday schedule.

The board approved three sets of minutes (joint special meeting with council, Township Assistance meeting and the regular meeting minutes) and then considered claims dated Aug. 6–Aug. 18, 2025. County staff recommended approving claims with one exception: an auditor line item for $206.88 for a medical license that was not itemized in a grant award and therefore not considered a supply. A commissioner moved to approve claims with that one exception; the motion passed by voice vote.

There was an attempt to exclude a separate past‑rent charge (about $52.50) from the same claim packet as an amendment; staff said the proposed amendment did not receive a second, and the original motion approving the claims with the single exception carried.

The board also approved payroll dated Aug. 15, 2025, "without exception," by motion and voice vote.

On the 2026 holiday schedule, Sadie, county staff, presented the calendar. Commissioners approved the 2026 schedule as presented, and staff clarified that because 2026 is an election year the county will not grant floating holidays but will observe election days as holidays (primary election day May 5 and general election day Nov. 3). For 2025 only, Veterans Day will be observed on Tuesday, Nov. 11 (the board clarified the 2025 observation date). The board approved the holiday calendar by voice vote.

All routine approvals passed during the Aug. 18 meeting; no further action was taken.
