Resident urges commissioners to oppose Gen X utility‑scale solar project during public comment

During public comment Aug. 18, Kenny McClary urged Tippecanoe County commissioners to oppose a proposed Gen X utility‑scale solar project and to ensure the county completes revisions to its solar ordinances before large projects proceed.
"People support the action you took to hit the pause button on large scale solar approvals," McClary said. He told the board his informal outreach to residents at fairs and meetings showed broad support for the county's moratorium and for a "thoughtful review of solar ordinance guardrails." He added, "Now we know... Gen X and RWE do not want their project to be subject to any revised ordinances."
McClary said the Gen X filing appears incomplete and that the company rushed to file with the Area Planning Commission before the moratorium took effect. "Their urgency reveals that this is just a hurried money grab to capture $50,000,000 in federal subsidies for their foreign parent companies," he said in his remarks.
He encouraged residents and elected officials to speak against the project at the Board of Zoning Appeals hearing scheduled Aug. 27 and invited APC staff to tour the site. "At the board of zoning appeals meeting on August 27, I will speak in opposition to the Gen X project along with many, many other citizens," McClary said.
Commissioners did not take formal action on the matter at the Aug. 18 meeting; the remarks were submitted during the public‑comment period.
