Board reschedules October meeting to Oct. 22 so levy can be set after state aid numbers arrive

The Saint Croix School District Board of Education agreed to move its October meeting from Wednesday, Oct. 15 to Wednesday, Oct. 22 so the district can set the levy after receiving late-arriving state aid numbers.
Board members said state aid information commonly arrives late in the day and that the district must submit levy data to the state by Oct. 15 in prior practice; to avoid a special meeting between Oct. 15 and Oct. 31, staff and trustees proposed moving the regular meeting one week later. The board voted informally on the change and will have staff send a survey to finalize availability for a board-development session.
Members also confirmed dates for other items: School Board Appreciation Week events on Oct. 8 (board members visiting buildings for breakfast), a Wazgopo regional meeting on Oct. 28 in Eau Claire, and board-development options discussed for early-to-mid October. Members asked staff to send availability surveys to finalize schedules.
The change is intended to allow staff to include the most current state aid figures in levy calculations before the board acts. Board members asked staff to coordinate a possible special-meeting alternative if numbers arrive earlier than expected.
