Mobile County approves $2.25 million in incentives for shipbuilding and steel projects, cites job and training commitments

The Mobile County Commission approved three project agreements on Aug. 25 that together commit $2.25 million in county funds to industrial projects the commission said will create jobs and support workforce training.
The commission authorized a $250,000 contribution to Master Boat Builders toward a new fabrication facility, employee training facility and floating dry dock in Mobile County; a $250,000 contribution to Burton/Burdon America toward construction linked to a 27-cutter contract for the U.S. Coast Guard; and a $1,750,000 package with ArcelorMittal for training reimbursements, apprenticeships and scholarships tied to a planned electrical steel facility.
