Board hears budget update on unfunded pay-step 'bump' and discusses several new state policy requirements

District finance staff provided a budget update and described how the state'authorized but unfunded "bump" to certified salary schedules will be implemented for eligible employees on the September 19 payroll while the state funding picture remains uncertain.
Heidi, a finance staff member, said the recent mini'bill authorized recognizing an additional year of service on certified salary schedules (a step "bump") but did not include funding for it. "They authorized a bump. Now what authorized means is we can go ahead and do that, but they didn't provide any money for that," Heidi said. She told the board the district will implement the step increases on the Sept. 19 payroll and will process any retroactive adjustments later if the legislature or state department provides allotments.
