Resident tells Depew trustees he faces harassment and alleged illegal eviction at Cayuga Village trailer park

At the Aug. 25 meeting of the Village of Depew Board of Trustees, resident Chad Herrigar described ongoing problems with the manager of a trailer park on Transit Road, alleging repeated harassment, disputed rent demands and an illegal eviction notice affecting his mother and other tenants.
Herrigar told the trustees he purchased a trailer and has been subject to repeated demands for money he says he does not owe, including an August 2023 notice and a later eviction posting he characterized as improper. He said he has documentation and videos and that his repeated requests for help from the property manager and outside agencies have not resolved the problem. Herrigar also alleged property managers changed corporate names on paperwork and that a broken car window was caused during a lawn mowing incident; he said the damage had not been addressed.
Village Attorney Sam Alba and Building Department staff acknowledged the village’s limited jurisdiction in landlord–tenant disputes but said they would try to help by providing contact information for fair-housing resources and by reaching out to the property owner on the resident’s behalf. Don (building department) said he had recently walked the park with the manager and would attempt to follow up. Chief McNamara (Police Department) and other officials listened and offered to facilitate further conversation after the meeting.
Herrigar said he has retained counsel and that some documents show disputed postage dates and receipt records for rents. He said the matter has caused him ongoing anxiety and health issues. Alba told the resident he could not provide legal advice but said the village staff would assist in connecting him with appropriate housing or enforcement resources and would follow up with the park owner.
No formal enforcement action was taken by the board at the Aug. 25 meeting; trustees encouraged the resident to meet with staff after the meeting and for staff to pursue available referral options.
