County conditionally approves relocation of Greatton Beach staff access; project will restore nearby dune and remove previous impacts

Walton County's Technical Review Committee on Aug. 20 conditionally approved a development order to relocate an access road used only by park staff and emergency services at Greatton Beach.
MRD Associates (Coastal Protection Engineering) submitted the application on behalf of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to relocate the staff access across roughly 4.463 acres in a conservation zoning district. The work will excavate about 250 cubic yards to create the new access and use that material to restore dune areas in the existing access footprint, according to the applicant. The new route will be stabilized with a vehicle‑grade MobiMat to minimize erosion and protect the dune.
Staff entered the partner project staff report into the record and noted fees were waived for the agency project. The committee conditionally recommended approval pending a revised resubmittal and final development order signoff by the county director. No public comments were offered at TRC concerning the access relocation.
