Riley County opened bids for the Peterson project during the Aug. 11 meeting. County staff read alternate and base bid amounts submitted by contractors and summarized start dates and proposed working days.
Bidders and selected figures read into the record included: - Shilling Construction (Manhattan): Alternate 1 bid $333,080; proposed start Oct. 15; 20 working days. - Buyer Construction (details recorded for alternates A1–A3 including $380,260 and larger alternates up to $606,865; proposed September start and staged concrete option dates noted). - Wire Construction (alternate totals $388,260; other alternates $586,965 and $606,865 with start Sept. 15 and timeline details).
After bids were opened and read, a motion and second were made to refer the bids to staff for review and a recommendation. The board approved the referral by voice vote; no formal award was made at the meeting. Staff will prepare a recommendation for a subsequent meeting after evaluating bids, scope options and schedules.
Commissioners recorded no objections to staff review; staff noted the procurement will proceed under standard county purchase and bid evaluation procedures.
