Beauregard Parish School Board to use Strong Start grant for updated five-year strategic plan

Beauregard Parish School Board Superintendent Mr. Holly said the district will begin a five-month process to extend and refine its strategic plan after receiving a Strong Start grant from the Louisiana Department of Education.
The effort, paid for by the state grant and led by Attuned Education Partners, will expand the district’s existing four-year strategic plan by one year and include interviews and surveys of board members, teachers, administrators, parents, alumni and other civic and community leaders, Holly said.
“The goal is to create a strategic plan that is both informed by our community and grounded in the reality of our classrooms,” Holly said. He said the process will be led by an external partner and is no cost to the district. Holly added that a survey will be sent to board members by Mrs. Hickenbaum and asked members to encourage constituents and community members to participate if they receive an email from Attuned Education Partners.
Fort Polk Garrison representative Lindsay Slager told the board the garrison is available to support military families and to help coordinate field trips and installation-related opportunities that involve district schools.
DeRidder Mayor Harris, invited to speak, said his office plans to work with the school system and local nonprofits on community projects, including a proposal by his nonprofit to acquire the former trade school on MLK for community use and emergency response. Harris said other local nonprofits will be asked to participate in restoring the building and in sustaining youth services after a leadership change at the Kingdom Center recreation program.
Board members were told the strategic planning work will include multiple opportunities for input from students, parents, alumni and staff. Holly said the initiative will refine the district’s original goals in light of accomplishments from the first two years of the plan.
The superintendent framed the Strong Start-funded process as a way to “move forward” with community-grounded priorities and asked board members to watch for the staff email with the survey link.
