Board accepts $500,000 Mercy Health pledge; names medical sciences area at UW Whitewater at Rock County

The Rock County Board approved a resolution accepting a $500,000 pledge from Mercy Health and designating a portion of the UW Whitewater at Rock County nursing area as the Mercy Health Medical Sciences Hub.
Supervisor Bob Zena moved the measure; Supervisor Cullen seconded. The pledge consists of five $100,000 payments over five years and will apply to a lab/learning area within the larger Allen Hall facility. The board voted by roll call, 24-0, to approve the naming and accept the pledge.
Supervisor Cullen said the nursing program is a "vastly needed" addition to the community and praised the facility as "state of the art." Officials noted that Rock County owns the property but that UW Whitewater funds much of the program's operations. The board also discussed a separate, smaller naming resolution for another sub-area that will be considered later.
County policy requires board review for naming county-owned facilities or areas; staff explained the resolution was placed before the full board because the gift and designation were judged significant. No changes to county ownership or program control were recorded in the discussion; the pledge will support the nursing lab build-out and related program elements.
The motion passed by roll call 24-0.
