USBE opens cohort‑2025 graduation preview; October finalize will set final rates

Utah State Board of Education staff said preliminary graduation‑rate files for cohort 2025 are being processed and that LEAs have until the October finalized deadline to correct or update records that affect final rates.
Calista told participants the cohort under review is the class of 2025 and that the preliminary runs will be updated into final counts after the October finalize window: “You have between now, and the October finalized deadline to update and get anything right from year end, for your final grad rate. We run the final grad rate, with the October data.”
USBE will make two MoveIt files available to LEAs (student‑level and aggregate by school/LEA) and will also reactivate the Graduation Rate Preview report in Data Gateway for users with the graduation role. Staff urged LEAs to ensure personnel who need access have the graduation role assigned.
Staff outlined options for correcting prior‑year records. Students still enrolled with the LEA this year who need prior‑year corrections require a historical update request (manual form, LEA admin role required). Students who have exited and are not enrolled this year should be corrected with an S1X update from the LEA SIS. USBE will deny historical update requests that can be done via S1X.
David and other staff are completing cohort readjustments for RA (reported as reenrolled/RA) students; Calista warned some LEAs may see fatal S1.398 errors until USBE completes those readjustments. She said those cohort adjustments and report updates were expected to be finished within days of the meeting and that LEAs should expect email notifications and refreshed reports the following week.
USBE explained the UZI report — used to check students who exited to adult education or to take the GED — and said that when an adult‑ed diploma is recorded the student will count as a graduate (GC), while a passing GED will be recorded as an “other completer” (GG). The UZI report is searchable by SSID and student name and is not currently organized by LEA.
Calista reiterated the timeline: LEAs should correct data before October 6 to affect the final graduation rate run; final rates are audited and published in December after review.
