Adrian Castro, a Doral resident of 15 years, told the council he and his two children use the Legacy Park fields and that the closure appears to have started June 4. “Since June 4, it has been closed,” Castro said, adding he has tried repeatedly to contact park staff and the city.
Castro said he understands the closure may be for safety reasons but urged the city to improve planning so repairs do not leave children without play for months. “So my point of view and my position is can we do something better? Is that a way that we can improve the planning?” he asked.
Mayor Kristy Fraga acknowledged the complaint during the public comment period and said Parks and Recreation staff and constituent services had been in contact with Castro and could speak with him after the meeting. “Our parks and recreation director is in the back and can address your concerns on the way out,” Fraga said.
The transcript shows Castro provided a memorandum he found in public records indicating an approval on June 4; he said the fields have remained closed for roughly two and a half months. City staff did not give a detailed timeline for repairs on the record during public comment.
