Committee approves no-parking zone on west side of 90 Fourth Avenue

Kenosha’s Public Safety and Welfare Committee voted Aug. 11 to prohibit parking on the west side of 90 Fourth Avenue between 70th Street and First Street.
Committee members adopted the staff recommendation after city traffic staff said the restriction would affect fewer residences and would reduce parking-related obstruction on an inside curve of the street.
Tony, the city’s traffic and civil engineer, told the committee the request originated with transit and that staff evaluated both sides of the street. He said the west side was recommended because it impacts an estimated two homes compared with roughly six or seven on the east side, and at least one of the two west-side homes has alternate driveway access to First Street. “We did send out a letter notifying them of it being on a future agenda, and we had not had anybody contact us that would be against it,” Tony said.
Representatives from the fire department and the police department reported they had no operational objections to the restriction. Chair Paula Needham called for the vote; a motion to adopt the staff recommendation was moved and seconded and passed by voice vote with the chair voting aye.
The committee did not record any formal amendments to the measure during the discussion. The new parking restriction will be implemented by the city’s traffic division as written on the agenda.
