Hardin County EMS reports strong year for reimbursements; 9-1-1 center posts June call statistics

Hardin County EMS presented year-end and June data to the fiscal court on July 22, reporting fiscal-year collections of about $7,063,000 and a total of 16,683 runs for the fiscal year.

Mark Peterson reported that EMS finished June with 1,345 runs, of which 1,323 were 9-1-1 responses, 13 were transfers and 160 were canceled runs. Reimbursements collected for June were $646,413 versus $443,000 in the comparable month previously. Year-to-date call volume totaled 16,683 runs, including 16,404 9-1-1 runs.

Peterson said the fiscal-year average reimbursement per run was about $367 and characterized it as the best five-year performance on average reimbursement per run. He also said the service completed its first year of 9-1-1 billing after initial computer issues early in the year.

When asked about new ambulances, Peterson said inspections were complete for one vehicle and the other two were scheduled for inspection the following week: "They are good. 1 was inspected yesterday by Kentucky Board of EMS. It's ready to roll, and the other 2 will be inspected next week and ready to go."

Hardin County’s 9-1-1 center reported June statistics immediately after EMS. Director Mike Leo told the court that 4,634 9-1-1 calls were answered in June, and the center created 59,997 CAD events year-to-date. Leo reported 10,405 CAD reports created for the month, 5,624 administrative calls answered and a five-year comparison showing a modest drop in calls for 2025 relative to recent years.

Leo also provided operational breakdowns: EMS accounted for the largest share of CAD events, followed by Rockwood Police and the sheriff’s office; fire runs by department were led in June by Elizabethtown at 41.1% and Radcliff at 19.5% (monthly percentages as reported).

Both departments offered to take questions from the court and provided the operational snapshot for the fiscal year and the month of June.
