Hardin County endorses renaming stretch of 31W for Iraq, Afghanistan veterans

Hardin County Fiscal Court voted on July 22 to approve Resolution 142, which recommends that the Kentucky General Assembly rename the section of U.S. 31W from the Hardin County line north of Fort Knox south to Veterans Way in Elizabethtown in honor of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans.
The resolution text read to the court cites respect for the service and sacrifice of those veterans and lists local state representatives and one state senator to receive the recommendation: Steve Bratcher, Josh Calloway, Peyton Griffey, Samara Hebron, Nancy Tate and state senator Matt Dinneen.
A magistrate identified themself as a Vietnam veteran during discussion and said they fully supported recognizing veterans and credited Robert Kasher of the Joint Executive Council of Veterans Organizations (JECVO) with initiating the request to the court.
"I'm a veteran myself, Vietnam veteran. Fully support, supporting any of our veteran group and recognizing their duty to this country," the magistrate said during the discussion.
A motion to approve the resolution was made and seconded; a roll call vote recorded unanimous approval. The roll call as read by the court was: Clem — yes; Hicks — yes; Muse — yes; Pennington — yes; Saltzman — yes; Thompson — yes; Whitehead — yes; Yates — yes; Judge (presiding) — yes. The motion passed.
The resolution is a recommendation to the state legislature; any renaming of the highway would require action by the Kentucky General Assembly and relevant state transportation authorities.
