Corona City Library Board approves minutes and consent calendar; manager outlines summer programs and adaptive services

The Corona City Library Board of Trustees on July 1, 2025, approved the minutes from its June 24 meeting and unanimously approved the consent calendar after a staff report from Library Manager Danielle Whittington highlighted summer programming, accessibility services and upcoming events.
Whittington told the board that an adaptive story hour for “individuals with disabilities that are 14 and above with their caregivers” meets on the second and fourth Monday of each month and “starts at 10,” and she credited Jessica Barlow for leading the program. Whittington also described rotating book displays in the adult area curated by Lisette and listed several upcoming events, including a carnival-themed summer finishers party on Aug. 1 at 6:30 p.m., make-your-own “LeFufu” sessions Aug. 14 at 6 p.m. and Aug. 20 at 2 p.m., a back-to-school fair on Aug. 21 at 3 p.m., and a gilded book-edges class for adults on Aug. 28 at 6 p.m.
Whittington said “library on the go is going to take a break for the month of August” because August is the hottest month and the program will pause for safety reasons. She also said the math tutoring and homework center will resume in August. Whittington reported one small incident in the preceding month and said there were “no suspensions or anythings to do with drugs, and no library materials consideration requests.”
The board heard attendance data: Whittington said the library saw “about 10,000 more people coming to visit the library” on average over the past year and credited diverse programming with increasing visits and engagement.
Whittington also listed community events and volunteer opportunities connected to the library: a rock-painting day for the adaptive program on Aug. 12 at the Circle City Center (registration online), a River Road Park cleanup and tree planting on Aug. 16 starting at 8 a.m., and a Friends of the Library report planned for the board’s Aug. 26 meeting. She closed by reminding trustees that the next Library Board of Trustees meeting is scheduled for Aug. 26, 2025, at 5:30 p.m.
The board took two formal votes at the meeting. A motion to approve the minutes of June 24, 2025, was made by Trustee Liddell and seconded by Trustee Heinemann. Chair Kennerly and Trustee Heinemann voted to approve; Trustee Shirley Teller Hayes abstained; Trustee Leslie Lidell voted to approve. The motion carried.
A separate motion to approve the consent calendar was moved by Trustee Heinemann and seconded by Trustee Tyler Hayes; the board recorded approvals from Chair Kennerly, Trustee Shirley Tyler Hayes, Trustee Heinemann and Trustee Laidle and the consent calendar was adopted.
Trustees and staff praised the library’s programming and outreach during trustee remarks. Multiple trustees said events such as the Mystery Theater and street-fair booths have drawn younger adults, and one trustee noted that increased visitation suggested programming was successfully broadening the library’s audience.
No public speaker cards or written public comments were submitted for this meeting, the board clerk reported.
