Council issues and tables orders for dilapidated structures and weeds/trash cases; staff directed to confer with property owners

The Guymon City Council took action July 8 on multiple code-enforcement items, approving one dilapidated-structure determination, tabling several weeds-and-trash matters and directing staff to pursue bids or meetings with property owners.

Council approved an order of determination for a dilapidated structure at Lot 26, Block 2, Price Hill Addition (214 Northeast 18th Street). Staff said the owner could not be contacted; the record shows the property was held in trust and ownership status required follow-up. Council also approved orders for other properties where staff recommended abatement or bid processes.

On several weeds-and-trash items the council tabled action after staff reported progress and ongoing contact with owners at properties including 403 North Beaver and 405 South Roosevelt. In one dilapidated-structure hearing at 909 North Ellison (Lot 11, Block 33, Funk Addition), owners described plans to install a privacy fence and use the building for storage; staff and council discussed zoning questions and whether the structure’s visibility from the public right-of-way would allow the case to be closed if a privacy fence concealed the condition.

Council members asked staff to meet with property owners and contractors and to return recommendations to the council. Several items were tabled to allow staff time to pursue bids for demolition or to document corrective work; where owners demonstrated progress, council held off on enforcement action.
