Broadwater County to receive new CAT excavator for transfer station; older machine to be surplused

TJ Gravely, Broadwater County public works director, told the Broadwater County Board of Commissioners that the county has purchased a new CAT 310 excavator for the transfer station and expects delivery in about 30 days.
Gravely said the county financed the purchase internally so interest payments “would stay in the county instead of go somewhere else,” and stated an amount of $2,530,000 when describing the financing arrangement as discussed with the commissioners. He said the older excavator will be put on public surplus in mid-September while it is still operational.
Gravely described the new machine as a smaller model with rubber tracks, which he said is preferable for the transfer-station floor. He said the county obtained a favorable price, describing it as “brand new CAT 310, cheaper than I could buy a used one,” and that officials plan to surplus the existing excavator while it still retains value.
