FARRANT — The Farrant City Council accepted proposed revisions Aug. 6 to Cemetery Ordinance 7-5-7, directing staff to bring final ordinance language back for formal adoption at the next meeting.
Council member Brown presented edits intended to simplify and standardize how the city handles unused cemetery lots. Key proposed changes recorded in the meeting packet and accepted by the council were:
• Proof of purchase and receipt required to establish purchase price for repurchase by the city.
• Without a receipt or proof, the maximum repurchase amount would be $20 per lot.
• The city will not repurchase more than two lots per purchaser.
• Lots with no use or activity for a period of 60 years and one day from date of purchase will revert to the city and the certificate will be canceled, allowing resale.
Council members cited administrative burdens created by inconsistent historic records and asked staff to draft final code language reflecting the council’s changes for a formal vote next month.
