Polk County commissioners approved a request to replace the county’s aging spray system and to budget payment in the 2026 budget.
The county presented an estimate of $135,008.70 for a replacement spray unit and associated equipment from the vendor that supplied the prior unit. The plan calls for leasing a truck (through Enterprise), having the equipment drop-shipped and mounted by the vendor, and accounting for minor additional costs if custom mounting work is required. Staff said parts for the new system include GPS mapping capabilities to improve record-keeping for spray locations and materials.
Commissioners moved and seconded the purchase request as a budgeted 2026 item; the motion carried on a voice vote. Staff said the equipment estimate may change slightly depending on final mounting work and lease terms; the county will work with Enterprise to determine a lease length and costs.
The presenter said the current system is 17 years old and that parts are failing; the new equipment would allow improved tracking of spray activities, recording of what was sprayed and where, and provide GPS mapping for compliance and recordkeeping.
