School board authorizes $348,946 change order for Lake Oswego Middle School project

The Lake Oswego School District Contract Review Board voted to authorize a $348,946 change order for the Lake Oswego Middle School project with Robinson Construction.
The change order covers additional grading work on the athletic field, stormwater remediation and removal of an underground oil tank that required excavation of contaminated soil, district staff said at the Oct. meeting. The board met in its contract review session and then convened the full school board for the regular session.
Mister Vandenberg described the issues to the board, saying the district had negotiated the items with the contractor over the prior month or two and that the oil tank removal and contaminated-soil disposal were particularly costly. He told the board the total amount requested was $348,946 and asked for questions.
Director Wallen moved to authorize the clerk or deputy clerk to approve Robinson's change order in that amount. Director Gupta seconded. Board members voted in favor by voice; the chair called the motion carried.
The board adjourned the contract review portion of the meeting shortly after the vote and moved on to its regular session. The change order was described by staff as drawing on budgeted contingency buffers.
