Durham County commissioners said they met in closed session and approved salary increases for several positions that report directly to the board. The salary changes were announced in open session Aug. 25 and approved by motion.
The increases announced were: clerk to the board, 12.91%; county attorney, 10.42%; chair, 3.36%; commissioner, 1.4%; county manager, 6.78%; register of deeds, 1.127%; and tax administrator, 12.126%. The motion to approve the listed changes was moved by Commissioner Burton and seconded by Vice Chair Doctor Lee; the chair announced the motion passed 4–0.
Following that vote the board also approved, by voice vote, excusing Commissioner Wendy Jacobs from the meeting. Other routine board actions taken during the session included adoption of the meeting agenda, approval of minutes for the Aug. 4 work session and Aug. 11 regular session, and passage of the consent agenda; those routine items were approved by voice vote as recorded in the meeting.
The board did not provide additional details in open session about budget offsets, effective dates for the increases, or personnel memoranda. The closed-session discussion referenced at the start of the meeting was described only as evaluations that led to the recommended changes for positions that report to the board.
Ending: The board recorded approval of the salary adjustments and several routine procedural votes; staff will maintain personnel records and any payroll implementation steps per regular county administrative procedures.
