Encinitas library highlights kiosks, online services and strong summer attendance

Renee Hansen, adult services librarian at the Encinitas Library, told the Senior Citizen Commission on Aug. 19 that the library’s kiosk on El Camino Real and Garden View operates 24/7 and is stocked with books and movies accessible with a library card.
Hansen listed online resources available to cardholders, including Libby (ebooks and audiobooks), PressReader (newspapers), Morningstar (investment research) and Udemy (instructional videos). She said library branch traffic has been unusually high this summer; the library logged 5,009 visits in a recent week, compared with typical mid‑4,000s weekly traffic, and summer reading participation nearly doubled from the prior year.
Hansen reminded commissioners that the kiosk and digital resources require a library card and that many resources are available around the clock on the library’s website. She concluded her remarks during the public comment portion of the meeting and accepted no formal requests of the commission.
