Public Works briefed the Common Council on flood response and emergency repairs and the council approved a $350,000 low bid for municipal garage HVAC replacements at its Aug. 19 meeting.
Public Works staff said an emergency sanitary sewer repair on Burr Oak Boulevard between Hemet Ave and Center Road required a contractor after city crews attempted an initial repair but encountered groundwater and soil conditions beyond in-house capacity. The contractor completed the repair and the sewer is operational; estimated cost is in the $20,000–$30,000 range though a final invoice was pending.
Staff said televising of older pipes in the area is ongoing and additional spot repairs or lining may be necessary. Public Works thanked partner departments and staff who worked overtime during the flooding and noted road closures and bridge precautions were used to protect public safety.
Separately, the council accepted the Public Works board recommendation to award the 2025 municipal garage HVAC replacement contract to Surefire, low bidder at $350,000. That motion passed unanimously.
