Montgomery County commissioners retire Deputy Budd's badge, approve minutes and register-of-deeds report

The Montgomery County Board of Commissioners presented a proclamation retiring badge number 853 that had been assigned to Deputy Budd and approved a short consent agenda that included minutes for July 10 and July 15, 2025 and the register of deeds report.

Sheriff Herron presented the proclamation to honor Deputy Budd’s service to Montgomery County and to provide a lasting memory for Budd’s family and county employees. Commissioners and others spoke briefly about Budd’s presence in school safety; one commissioner recalled Budd greeting students at West Middle School and looking after children on the county’s west side.

Routine business and votes: The board approved the meeting agenda on a motion by Mr. Pope, seconded by Mr. Shaw. The consent agenda — minutes for July 10 and July 15, 2025, and the register of deeds report — was approved on a motion by Mr. Hurley, seconded by Mr. Shaw. Commissioners indicated approval by voice vote; the clerk recorded the motions and the board chair called the votes in the meeting.

County manager and operations: The county manager reported no items for board action beyond the routine monthly reports included in the agenda packet. The manager said the county is testing and upgrading audio and visual equipment in the commission chambers and invited feedback from commissioners and the public; staff named Frankie and Janet from the IT team as leading the upgrades.

Closing: Commissioners offered condolences and thanks to Budd’s family. A final motion to adjourn was made by Mr. Hurley and seconded by Mr. Shaw.
