Lewisburg — The Lewisburg Town Council on Aug. 12 approved several resolutions and policy changes aimed at traffic calming, cemetery maintenance, utilities operations and solid‑waste collection.
The council voted to install bolt‑down rubber speed bumps (two on Edgewood Drive and two on Allen Lane) and to add two signage installations at Wilder Street and Edgewood Drive. Town staff told the council the bolt‑down units are a removable option and the initial installation for the neighborhood package is expected to cost about $2,600. "This project as we've explained it . . . is gonna run about $2,600," Town Manager (Mr. Brown) said during discussion.
The council also voted to dissolve the existing cemetery grounds maintenance contract and award a new 12‑month contract to Valencia Lawn Care. Staff reported two complete bids: Valencia Lawn Care at $53,340 and Bridal Oak Landscaping at $59,322; the town's current contract cost is $37,068 for service at two cemeteries. Staff said accepting Valencia's bid would increase cemetery maintenance spending by roughly $16,272 and that funding would be handled with a budget amendment later in the year. Resident Anne Brown told the council Oakwood Cemetery is "almost a forest" and asked for better upkeep.
On solid waste, the council adopted a comprehensive solid‑waste collection policy on a 12‑month trial basis. Under the plan household trash collection will be consolidated to Monday and Tuesday routes, bulk items will be collected on Fridays by appointment, and yard waste will be collected twice weekly on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
