Crawford County commissioners reauthorize farmland program, approve $3 million trail grant application and routine payments

The Crawford County Board of Commissioners on July 23 reauthorized the countyAgland Preservation Program for seven years, approved submission of a $3,000,000 multimodal transportation grant application to extend the Bessemer Trail toward the Crawford Business Park, and ratified a slate of routine payments, contracts and personnel actions.

The conservation district requested the Agland Preservation Program reauthorization at the start of the meeting. The request, presented by Tracy on behalf of the conservation district, asked the board to reauthorize the program for seven years beginning Jan. 1, 2026, through Dec. 31, 2032; the presenter said this would be the fourth resolution for the program. The board moved, seconded and approved the reauthorization by roll call.

The board also approved a resolution authorizing county planning to submit a $3,000,000 grant application to the Commonwealth Finance Authority to extend the Bessemer Trail toward the Crawford Business Park. The resolution authorizes the county planning office to apply, to partner with the Economic Progress Alliance of Crawford County to act as project manager, and to pay a $100 application fee; the presenter stated the grant requires no local match.
