Forney ISD honors students, coaches and teachers for state and national recognitions
Summary
Forney ISD recognized campuses and individuals for TEPSA student leadership awards, UIL academic and athletics placements, theater honors, a Broadway Dallas educator award and NAMM Foundation community music designation.
Forney Independent School District trustees recognized students, teams and staff for academic, arts and athletics honors, and celebrated the district’s 11th consecutive recognition from the NAMM Foundation as a Best Community for Music Education.
Lizzie Raider, chief of elementary leadership and learning, announced that two campuses — Clavin Elementary and Griffin Elementary — earned the 2025 Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association (TEPSA) Student Leadership Award for campus leadership and community service.
Mel Harland, director of engagement and higher education partnerships, reported that Forney High’s UIL academics team returned from state competition with individual and team honors, including freshman Brianna Du’s fourth-place finish in spelling and the journalism team’s first-place overall finish. Harland said, "We are so proud of these students and their campuses. Congratulations to Clavin and Griffin for this well deserved honor." Neil Weaver, executive director of athletics, highlighted a Forney High state qualifier in track who set a school record in the 400-meter dash and advanced through district, area and regional competition to the state meet. Weaver invited the athlete and coach Landon Helzer to the podium.
Janae Glanton, director of theater, and district fine-arts staff recognized North Forney High School's North Star Theater for advancing to the UIL 6A one-act play state contest, finishing sixth in the 6A division and earning multiple acting and technical honors. Susanna Cole was recognized for receiving the Broadway Dallas Summer Musicals High School Musical Educator of the Year Award and for her leadership of North Star Theater.
Dr. Stormy Lamont, chief of secondary leadership and learning, announced that Forney ISD qualified for the NAMM Foundation’s Best Communities for Music Education designation for the 11th consecutive year, noting the district’s policies on music funding, participation and community support.
During the public forum, AJ Murray, superintendent of Crandall ISD, offered public praise for Forney ISD staff and specified praise for staff who assisted visiting boards and families during recent events at Opportunity Central.
The board recessed briefly after the recognitions and then proceeded with business items.
