Rankin County IT presents redesigned county website, aims for November public launch

Rankin County IT staff presented supervisors on Aug. 15 a preview of a redesigned county website and a timeline for turning the site over to the public.
The county’s IT representative said the vendor has begun recoding pages for a site that will reduce clicks to commonly used services, and that a test site will be delivered to county staff by Oct. 16 for departmental review. The speaker said the estimated public go-live date is Nov. 4, 2025, but that the county will attempt to launch earlier if possible.
The presenter said the existing site contains more than 740 pages, which requires significant recoding, and emphasized plans for a community-events section and a process to keep content fresh so the site does not become stale. He told the board that routine small updates could be handled in-house while the vendor will support larger or higher-end features.
Board members asked whether the county could make changes after launch; staff said a mix of in-house edits and vendor support is planned. No formal board action was taken.
The county IT presenter said printed screenshots of the new design were available for board members and staff for review; he also circulated a brief timeline and indicated additional departmental testing would follow the Oct. 16 handoff.
Staff said they would provide departments access to the test site and collect requested wording or navigation changes during internal testing before the public go-live date. The IT representative reiterated the goal that most commonly used functions should be no more than two clicks away.
The presentation concluded without vote; staff will continue implementation with the stated milestones and present updates as the testing phase proceeds.
