The Evansville Board of Public Works approved several right-of-way permits, a sidewalk waiver for Parshnath Banath Subdivision and temporary road-closure requests for two community events at a meeting on July 31, 2025.
The actions allow utility and pavement work at multiple locations and clear the way for campus and neighborhood events that will require traffic control. City engineering recommended specific pavement-repair methods and required that maintenance-of-traffic procedures comply with the Indiana Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (Indiana MUTCD).
Board members voted first to approve right-of-way permit applications 2237 and 2239 through 2241 after city engineering staff recommended conditioning approvals: pavement repair for application 2237 must be reinforced concrete tied into existing concrete pavement, and repairs for application 2241 must follow the city engineering utility-cut repair detail. Board members then separately moved to approve application 2238; the motion carried with an abstention from one board member.
The board also approved a sidewalk-waiver request for the Parshnath Banath Subdivision at the northeast corner of Highway 41 North and Yokel Road. The board record shows the Area Plan Commission previously approved the waiver on July 11, 2024; staff said the board action was needed to complete recording and administrative cleanup.
The board granted requests for barricades and signage for two events: a University of Evansville Greek welcome-week event planned for Monday, Aug. 18, 2025, closing Walnut Street between Rotherwood and Weinbach from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. for a music event and large games (the application listed an expected 400 new students and 200 Greek life members); and a community gathering at Teepee Park scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 23, 2025, closing Monroe Avenue between Linwood Avenue and Garvin Street from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. for vendor sales and live music. The board noted road closures had been approved earlier by the Board of Public Safety.
The board approved minutes from its July 24, 2025 meeting, accepted the recommended bills and payroll, and adjourned at 1:34 p.m.
Speakers identified in the meeting included board members who led motions and votes and city staff who presented engineering recommendations; the transcript lists the names Mr. Wyle, Mr. Zemer, Mr. Wall and Mr. Robertson, and identifies Kevin Corburn as a named contact on an event application. The transcript did not provide full first names or official titles for all speakers.
