Trinity County board proclaims October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, endorses HRN candlelight walk

The Trinity County Board of Supervisors voted Sept. 16 to adopt a proclamation recognizing October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month and to support the Human Response Network’s annual candlelight walk in Weaverville on Oct. 17.
Tamim Ansari, program manager for the empowerment team at Human Response Network, told the board the event is “a moment of reflection, remembrance, and unity,” and urged the board to adopt the symbolic recognition. “In the past year alone, 183 survivors in Trinity County turned to HRN for support and services,” Ansari said.
The proclamation text read by the board said domestic violence “is a grave and pervasive issue” and praised “local organizations, advocates and survivors” for their work. The document formalizes the board’s encouragement that community members participate in the candlelight walk and commits Trinity County to raising awareness and supporting survivors.
Board members moved and seconded the proclamation and recorded unanimous approval. Supervisors on the dais recorded the vote as aye; the board then invited HRN representatives forward for a group photo.
The action is a symbolic proclamation; no regulatory or budgetary directives were issued. Human Response Network invited board members to participate in the Oct. 17 event and to present the proclamation if available.
The board’s formal language and the HRN presentation are intended to highlight local services and public awareness rather than create new county programs or funding commitments.
